Following a series of singles, Nottingham label Reloaded Sounds supply their very first EP, which comes courtesy of fellow Notts native Sensi. Samurai Silhouette is a dose of heavy 140 that balances impact with elegance, infused with ringing gongs, shimmering metallic chimes and atmospheric samples of rainfall for a lo-fi Far Eastern aesthetic.

The opening track, “Shadow Dread”, is a darkly hypnotic cut, as melancholy flutes float on a rising and falling tide of bass. Next up, “Frog Village” swells with swirling, plucked strings that slice through smooth sub-low punches. Intermittently peppered with tight-grouped kick patterns, muted snares and ticking rhythmic detail, it’s easy to hear why the tune caught the ear of Jack Dat, getting spins on Rinse FM for the past year. Then, Sensi trades the shadier mood for a sharper edge, marking the drop on “Mandir” with an impassioned shout straight out of a classic kung fu film. Interwoven melodies and muted harmonies flit across this rousing track, adding veiled layers of energy to the fighting spirit of Samurai Silhouette’s finale.

The release comes complete with vivid, hand-drawn artwork from Morgan Harley and Harry James Brown
